EPALE Podcast - Overcoming barriers, in education and society
In the framework of the ongoing European Year of Skills, join us as we discuss how skills policies impact inclusion.
The Lifelong Learning Platform, in collaboration with EPALE, invited Georg Pirker, President of the Democracy and Human Rights Education in Europe Network, and Jonas Abrahamsson, Project manager at the project office of Region Västra Götaland - the administration of folk high schools - to discuss inclusion in policies related to skills provisions. How do these policies impact inclusion? How can we best tackle inclusion in society of those who are neither employed or in training? These and other questions spurred during the conversation.
The discussion kicks off with a focus on the challenges and opportunities presented by the European Year of Skills to put inclusion and equity of education systems back on the European agenda. Particular attention was dedicated to practices that make the inclusion of people that are not in education employment or training (the so-called NEETs) in the wider society, through counselling and career guidance. In addition, guests elaborated on what they perceive to be the needs of young adults in this regard.
Another topic that experts touched upon was the impact of EU policies on the inclusiveness of education and employment systems. Once again, good practice came in useful. The conversation developed spontaneously, all the while recognising that the spotlight on skills is an invaluable stage on which to build societies that leave no one behind.

L'objet du projet :
Les espaces du 3ème type permettent de développer de nouvelles manières d’apprendre, de créer, de fabriquer de la valeur, en prenant en compte de nouveaux critères de réussite : développement de la confiance en soi et dans les autres, dans l’avenir ; respect des personnes et de la planète ; valorisation des habiletés acquises auparavant et de celles développées dans la coopération et la collaboration ; valorisation de la pensée créative (« flip thinking ») etc. Ce sont des espaces d’expression des envies pour modifier durablement le rapport au futur, soutenir des visions sociétales plus optimistes, plus inclusives, et plus égalitaires.
L’innovation réside dans la manière dont ils se créent et fonctionnent, les relations entre les personnes, le mixage des préoccupations : pas de séparations entre travail ; apprentissage ; création; personnel et collectif ; contenu et méthode, mais une complémentarité permanente.
