Empowering Learning for Sustainable Mobility from Erasmus+ SOS Project

Dear EPALE Community,

Building on the success of our Sustainable Eating resources, we are excited to share another valuable set of materials from our Erasmus+ KA2 project, Social Opportunities of Sustainability (SOS)! This time, we focus on Sustainable Mobility and Transport, exploring how we can transition to more environmentally friendly and socially inclusive ways of moving.

This resource kit stems from a dynamic event we held in Ireland in September 2024 at Frontline (a social enterprise focused on sustainable mobility – more about them below!). This event brought together adult educators to explore innovative approaches to sustainable transport and mobility solutions.

We are now delighted to offer you a comprehensive Resource Kit from our Ireland event, available in [English, Italian, Spanish, and Swedish]!

This Resource Kit includes three key documents:

  • Document 1: "Sustainable Mobility Event @ September 2024 - Presentation by Smart Dublin": This presentation from Alan Murphy, Regional Manager at Smart Dublin, provides valuable insights into Smart Dublin's initiatives in promoting sustainable mobility within the city. Learn about their projects focusing on:

    • Active Travel (Walking & Cycling) and demonstrating its positive impacts.
    • Shared Mobility solutions.
    • EV Public Charging Infrastructure considerations.
    • Public Mobility Hubs and Staff Mobility Hubs.
    • Accessible Parking solutions using real-time data.
    • Last Mile Delivery initiatives.

  • Document 2: "Stepping into Doughnut Workshop": This insightful presentation, led by Dr. Lucia Walsh & Dr. Olivia Freeman, introduces the Doughnut Economics framework and applies it to the context of sustainable mobility. Explore how to ensure mobility solutions are both ecologically safe (within planetary boundaries) and socially just (meeting the needs of all). This presentation encourages reflection on how your work and organization can contribute to a "doughnut" approach to sustainable mobility.

  • Document 3: "Good example of Use and Initiative for Sustainable Mobility: MAKE CHANGE - FRONTLINE: A Sustainable Social Enterprise Example": Discover Frontline Bikes, a social enterprise in Dublin, Ireland, that serves as a powerful example of sustainable mobility in action. This presentation showcases how Frontline:

    • Provides addiction support services alongside sustainable initiatives.
    • Operates Frontline Bikes, an upcycling & training unit and bike shop.
    • Employs a circular economy model by upcycling donated bikes.
    • Embodies "deep greening" in its approach to sustainable mobility and social impact.

Why are these resources valuable for you?

  • Real-world examples and case studies: Learn from Smart Dublin's city-level initiatives and Frontline Bikes' inspiring social enterprise model.
  • Framework for strategic thinking: The Doughnut Economics presentation provides a valuable lens for analyzing and planning sustainable mobility projects.
  • Ready-to-use presentations: These presentations can be adapted and used directly in your own workshops, training sessions, or educational programs on sustainable mobility and urban development.
  • Focus on social enterprise and community impact: Highlights the potential of sustainable mobility initiatives to create social opportunities and address societal challenges.

We believe these resources will empower adult educators to inspire learners and communities to embrace sustainable mobility solutions and contribute to greener, more equitable cities and regions.

We invite you to:
