Building a Future of Lifelong Learning

We present the results of the work of the Strengthening Lifelong Learning project in 2024.

The Strengthening Lifelong Learning project, led by the Slovenian Institute for Adult Education, is all about making education more accessible, engaging, and practical for adults.

In 2024, we made great strides in helping people develop basic skills, improving the quality of adult education, and providing better career and personal development support for educators. Here’s a look at what we’ve accomplished!

Helping Adults Improve Basic Skills and Key Competences

One of our biggest wins in 2024 was launching two (out of 9) easy-to-use online self-assessment tools:

Both tools are offering instant feedback and personalized learning suggestions. Together with descriptors of key competences created by experts and practitioners and educational movies, both developed in previous projects, the instruments are completing the innovative didactical tolls for development of key competences of adults.

Enhancing the Quality of Adult Education

To support adult educators a programme Modern Approaches to Adult Learning (in Slovenian) was prepared. The programme focuses on new teaching methods, personalized learning strategies, and motivation techniques.

Additionally, a new resource guide, Fundamentals of Adult Education, is being developed. It will provide practical insights for educators.

Better Career & Learning Guidance for Adults

To enhance support services, the project created a video called Guidance for Knowledge – Guidance Activities in Adult Education (in Slovenian). The video shows how career and learning counsellors help adults choose the best education paths and job options.

A new training programme, Habitus Sensitive Counselling (in Slovenian), was launched to help counsellors support people from various backgrounds.

Green Skills for a Sustainable Future

The project introduced new initiatives to help adults develop green skills for sustainable living and work. An app concept called Green Transition was developed, allowing users to track environmental changes, learn about sustainability, and adopt eco-friendly habits. A fully developed application will be available in 2029.

Additionally, preparations for the "Discovering the Power of Nature" conference are underway. Set for 27 – 28 November 2025, this event will bring together experts to discuss how adult education can contribute to a greener future. The Call for contributions is opened until 7th April 2025.

Looking Ahead

The Strengthening Lifelong Learning project has made a real difference in 2024, opening up learning opportunities for adults and providing them with the tools to grow. Whether it’s digital skills, career guidance, or sustainability, we’re committed to helping people keep learning and thriving in an ever-changing world.
