DIGITELD TRAINING MODULES (6-7)


The DIGITELD project is a major initiative funded by the European Union. The objective of the project is to improve media and information literacy (MIL) and digital literacy (DL) among senior citizens, mainly the over-65s in Belgium and Italy. The aim is to bridge this skills gap by organising two training courses aimed at the over-65s in Belgium and Italy. The courses will be taught by professionals from journalism and academia and will focus on developing technical and analytical skills that can help seniors using digital tools to recognise fake news, especially in the fields of political propaganda and health disinformation.The project is supported by three key partners: the Fondation Privée pour la Promotion de la Profession de Journaliste (FPPJ), as project coordinator; Euabout, both based in Belgium; and the University of Macerata (UNIMC), based in Italy.
Below are briefly described modules 6-7 implemented through the DIGITELD project:
Unit 6: Journalism and disinformation: How can media systems contribute to disinformation
Key Topics: The role of journalism can inadvertently or intentionally contribute to the spread of mis/disinformation online through sensational headlines, clickbait, selective reporting, both side reporting, reinforcing polarized views
Unit 7: Responsible Reporting and Ethical Journalism: How can media systems counter disinformation
Key Topics: The emphasizing the importance of responsible reporting and fact-checking initiatives; case studies of journalistic integrity in the face of fake news.
