Princess Anne will receive award for commitment to lifelong learning

This April the City Lit Centenary Fellowship Award will be presented to Princess Anne, in recognition of her support for and promotion of lifelong learning. The award celebrates the work of people who encourage educational opportunities for adults and make a big difference in the field of adult education.
The Princess Royal will present awards to others as well as receive her own. Students and tutors will be attending and will have the opportunity to meet and speak with the Princess.

The adult education college was founded in 1919, with the focus being on creative ideas and helping those to emerge in their students. They wanted to provide students with the opportunity to gain an education that didn’t focus on vocation, but instead on creative studies that incorporated leisure. They now offer more than 5,000 part-time short courses every year and are considered to be an innovative and adaptive institution, moving with the times to suit the residents of London and their changing needs and interests.
Princess Anne has commended City Lit for their inspirational learners and tutors, their diverse backgrounds, eagerness to challenge themselves and desire to improve their lives through education. She also expressed joy at being awarded the prestigious City Lit Centenary Fellowship Award and to be visiting the college again.
The Princess has done much work to support institutions that encourage adult learning, including being the Patron of the Learning & Work Institute, being elected the Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh and taking the role of Royal Fellow of the Royal Society and Academy of Medical Sciences.
