Learn the essentials for multimedia and online learning design in higher education

The TransACTION! project on Media and Learning Design for European Higher Education brought together partners from Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Belgium, all involved in supporting media-based learning initiatives and activities. The primary goal was to develop and scale up effective media-based learning strategies and resources in Higher Education. The TransACTION! team created a range of practical methods and tools to support the effective use, adaptation, design, and application of multimedia teaching formats, which can also be used effectively in vocational or general adult education and training, for example.
The TransACTION! Multimedia and online learning design course is tailored for Higher education teachers, learning developers, learning technologists, instructional designers and support staff looking to enhance their multimedia production and online learning design skills. This programme covers key areas such as multimedia learning principles, multimedia production techniques, online learning design, and facilitation strategies. Divided into four modules, it provides insights into effective multimedia integration, practical production guidelines, and strategies for creating engaging online learning environments. (Participants need to register on the teachable platform first to access the course content).
A training manual for using open online course materials describes tested training approaches and their recommendations on how to use course materials with different target groups, students and in different institutional settings.
Complementary to the course, a framework for the production of high quality multimedia, with hands-on tips and guidance (Handbook) and a Workbook are available for download.

Finally, as the project wraps up, it presents ten practical recommendations for support providers, decision-makers and policy influencers at institutional, national, and European levels. These recommendations aim to help HEIs effectively navigate digital transformation while enhancing their competitiveness.
