Conference on Designing Learning Spaces in Basic Education

Experts from Lower Saxony, Germany and across Europe will share research-based insights and hands-on experience on designing learning spaces in basic skills education.
Keynote: Designing learning spaces – understanding life contexts
Prof. Dr Simone C. Ehmig (Free University of Berlin) presents findings from a research and development project on (learning) motivation and commitment in the everyday lives of adults with basic skills needs.
Thematic Workshops
Workshop 1 | The European Café – co-creating basic skills education: Staff of the National Coordination Office for the European agenda on adult education. An interactive World Café workshop: pooling experiences, exchanging practice-based examples, and developing ideas for learning spaces that foster participation and motivation.
Workshop 2 | Learning in context – enabling discovery through local learning spaces: Andreas Klepp, basic skills expert, exploring the role of inspiring locations and local cooperation in enhancing engagement and participation. Practice cases from the Regional Basic Skills Centre in Braunschweig, followed by a joint exploration of new opportunities.
Workshop 3 | The future of learning is human: Stephanie Wössner, consultant for future-oriented learning, from technology-driven digitalisation towards human-centred transformation: how learning spaces can strengthen self-efficacy, resilience, and the ability to shape the future.
Workshop 4 | Rethinking literacy – designing learning spaces with AI: Marsilia Podlech (M.A.) and Nana Dreßler (M.A.), InteG/University of Education Weingarten, reflection and perspective shift: how do digital media and AI reshape our concept of literacy and the role of educators? Participants co-design a course plan using a didactic model, highlighting AI’s potential and challenges in literacy acquisition.
Workshop 5 | Europe as a learning space – enhancing basic skills through Erasmus+: Achim Scholz with representatives of self-help groups and Erasmus+ experts, first-hand experiences from a mobility project to Vienna: opportunities, challenges, and key conditions for successful international learning in basic skills education.
