Bonjour! Project: paper presented at the ICERI 2024

The paper titled "The BonJour! Project’s Training Course – A Best-Practice Example of a Low Threshold Learning Platform Simplifying Access for Elderly Learners" presents an innovative approach to addressing the digital divide by enhancing media literacy among older adults. The BonJour! Project, funded by Erasmus+, focuses on empowering adults over 55 by developing critical media literacy skills through a Flipped Learning 3.0 framework. The platform is designed to be user-friendly, with features that accommodate the specific needs of elderly learners, such as simple navigation, large fonts, and barrier-free design.

Key aspects of the platform include the Individual Learning Space, which offers multimedia content like interactive videos and quizzes, allowing learners to progress at their own pace. The Group Learning Space, while not covered extensively in this paper, facilitates higher-order learning through collaborative and interactive sessions. This dual approach fosters both foundational and advanced cognitive skills, ensuring comprehensive learning.

Why low-threshold platforms?

The paper highlights the importance of low-threshold platforms, which are accessible, flexible, and engaging. The BonJour! platform is built on WordPress, chosen for its ease of use, seamless multimedia integration, and strong support for multilingual content. The paper also emphasizes the project’s commitment to inclusivity, with no mandatory login required, ensuring that users can easily access learning resources.

The study discusses the challenges older adults face with digital literacy and outlines the BonJour! platform as a best-practice model for future initiatives. Overall, the project showcases a pioneering effort in making digital literacy education accessible to the elderly, contributing to reducing social exclusion and promoting lifelong learning.
