Social inclusion (for adults) and democracy is part of the genesis of adult education (social movements, citizenship .... Horton, Freire, Grundtvig ...). At specific times and geographies, this purpose has been achieved. But we still have to work hard so that adults feel included and participate in the construction of increasingly democratic societies.

I think that in synthesis we cannot shape the future of Adult Learning in Europe unless we give due importance to SDG 4.7. For those not familiar, it says: "4.7 by 2030 ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development". The future of Adult Education lies in the promotion of sustainable lifestyles as understood through the four pillars of the economy, the environment, society and culture. The focus of this conference on social inclusion was crucial since it gave importance to a pillar that is sometimes overlooked in practice rather than considered an indivisable pillar of what sustainabiltiy is all about.

Still, the outmost pillar of success is considered to be the high performance and material prosperity. How could the academic community & relevant organizations connect innovation and sustainable development with the awareness of soft (life) skills?

Hi,
I would specially thank the organizing team of EPALE for this amazing virtual Community Conference. The panelists were great of course but sometimes I feel that the team behind thems stays unnoticed. In my opinion the work of moderators was effective and helpful. It really helped a lot to follow or to stay on track nwhen somebody like Guido added the links to the comments, because at some point one could miss some important but useful information but via comments we can follow those later as well. Initiatives such as the Climate Action Project and many others that were mentioned in various penals of the community conference are really inspiring and help us make the bigger change together. That is an important concept behind the community work, isn't it?
Thank you once more, EPALE team! Warm greetings also to all panelists and participants!
Take care and stay healthy!

Dear Renilde,
for the keynote speech by Koen Timmers and the panel discussion on "Taking adult education forward" you don't need to register; those sessions will be visible to everyone.
We will live stream the speech and that panel discussion here on EPALE and on our Facebook page.

On the other hand, workshops and national panels require registration, since the number of participants is limited.

Why is Economics Taught so Badly at School?

In the ECONOMY FOR LIFE project, we surveyed young Europeans about their level of education in economics, and the results are surprising: the majority admit to having received a very poor education at school and university and wish to improve their level as they feel lost in these subjects.
