My Story
The importance of being human: ITT G. Malafarina restarts from social entrepreneurship in an Erasmus+ key
ITT G. Malafarina from Soverato celebrated, together with Anadolu Lisesi from Gaziantep (Turkey) and Profesionalna Gimnazia from Vratsa (Bulgaria), the Ka229 project, coordinated by the Liceul Tehnologic Sfanta Ecaterina from Urziceni (Romania). Erasmus + mobility has engaged the students and teachers involved in a path aimed at developing skills related to social entrepreneurship; through the promotion of common civic values, equality and inclusion.
It was a real intercultural full immersion. Thanks to this, guests and hosts had the opportunity to implement their critical thinking and to share moments of personal and professional growth and enrichment. The visit to the Municipality of Camini was significant; a Calabrian village demographically small but outstanding for its longstanding excellence in the field of hospitality. Founded in 1999, Coop Servizi Jungi Mundu (from the Calabrian dialect: unite the world) has become a real family, a melting pot of ethnic groups and, above all, a location of real-life community stories: troubled stories, stories of suffering and fear, but which, in the context of the Ionian little country, have found a happy endings.
The Reception Center unites immigrants from many different places, such as Nigeria, Libya, Mali, Ghana, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Ukraine, Niger, Gambia, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia. The work carried out by the Cooperative and by the Municipal Administration of Camini, (led by the Mayor Giuseppe Alfarano) is exemplary. The guests of the Center are welcomed and accompanied in an intense process of social and work requalification. The President of Jungi Mundu, Rosario Zurzolo, speaks of the art of presence, recalling how welcoming has literally regenerated local inhabitants. The institutions involved in Erasmus + mobility have had the opportunity to be influenced by this, discovering the beauty of a village that is no longer abandoned, among the smiles of children who have eventually found peace, the reborn craft shops, between tradition and innovation, and the colours and flavours of a wonderful site which is full of nuance and united in solidarity.
The Entrepreneurship Day was also rich in ideas and suggestions. It was celebrated at the ITT G. Malafarina on November 24th. The welcome of the ever-present, sensitive and active Director Domenico Agazio Servello opened the day, with the various delegations who alternated presentations focusing on the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on business, with proposals for overcoming the social and economic crisis. The testimony of Alessandra Tuzza was extremely interesting. She is in charge of Europe Direct Calabriaeuropa, and presented the Alma program to the participants, highlighting the commitment of the European Union in setting up new opportunities for youth. Space was also made for art and children's dreams: the lyricist Antongiulio Iorfida, representing the MVM Rec Studio Music Association (Soverato), expressed the ambition to set-up a startup company aimed at transforming the passion of many young people for music into viable careers in the industry.
