NIILS Recommendations and Guidelines: to promote inclusive and supportive informal learning spaces

Introducing the NIILS Guidance Material
The NIILS Guidance Material, produced by Akdeniz University (Antalya, Türkiye; AKD), provides a comprehensive synthesis of the key findings and insights from the NIILS project. Each participating university contributed to different work packages, preparing detailed reports and documents. The leading university for each package then compiled these findings into comprehensive reports.
- University for Continuing Education Krems (Krems, Austria; UWK): Prepared the Comparative Report on the Availability and Infrastructure of Informal Learning Spaces.
- Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (Berlin, Germany; HTW): Compiled the Users’ Perspective Analysis Report, focusing on the usage, perception, and impact of informal learning spaces.
- Sapienza University of Rome (Rome, Italy; SAP): Developed the Mapping Platform Report, detailing the design, development, and analysis processes.
- Mykolas Romeris University (Vilnius, Lithuania; MRU): Created the Learning Communities’ Co-creation Framework.
In the final phase of the NIILS project, Akdeniz University synthesized the collective knowledge and experiences from these activities and reports. They prepared guidance materials aimed at promoting inclusive and supportive informal learning spaces (ILSs) by leveraging technology and fostering collaboration among diverse target groups in higher education across Europe.
These guidelines are designed to ensure transferability and to enhance our understanding of the significance, applications, and features of inclusive ILSs. Special attention is given to spatial, geographical, and cultural differences, as well as the specific requirements of various user groups. We hope these recommendations will serve as a valuable resource in creating effective and inclusive learning environments.
