Training for Success, Course for People with Epilepsy


Training for Success is an award-winning course for people with epilepsy run in the Institute of Technology, Sligo in partnership with Epilepsy Ireland and funded through SOLAS. It is an accredited Level 4 major Award in Employment Skills and is the only course of its kind in Europe. The purpose of the programme is to facilitate progression to further learning and/or work.
The next course will start on 21 August 2017. Applications are invited.
The programme aims to enable students to:
Identify a career of their choice
Set realistic educational and employment goals and plan to achieve them
Acquire skills and confidence to gain employment
Learn about the nature and management of epilepsy
Enhance individual employability
Promote inclusion in the third level environment
Target learners are people with epilepsy who may:
- Have experienced difficulty in school or in choosing a career
- Have had to change carer as a result of developing epilepsy
- Have difficulty coming to terms with the diagnosis
- Need to develop their personal skills; self-image, self-confidence and social skill

- Communications
- Health and Fitness
- Personal Effectiveness
- Mathematics
- Teamwork
- Understanding Interculturalism
- Workplace Safety
- Work Experience
- Spanish
All eligible students are paid a SOLAS training allowance equivalent to their social welfare payment and an accommodation allowance.
