Schwätzt Dir Lëtzebuergesch? (Do you speak Luxembourgish?)

Schwätzt Dir Lëtzebuergesch? (Do you speak Luxembourgish?) is the title of a new Luxembourgish textbook elaborated by the National Institute for Languages (INL) together with several Swiss experts. It targets adults who do not speak Luxembourgish yet, but who are taking Luxembourgish classes to learn the language.
The book’s topics speak to a large audience and prepare the learners for everyday situations in Luxembourg. The different chapters provide insights into the country, national holidays, traditional Luxembourgish food and produces, famous people, etc.
The textbook offers an A1 (Common European framework of reference for languages) language course, covering the four competence areas: reading and listening comprehension, writing and speaking skills. The focus, however, is on spoken communication. This is due to the fact that learners will rarely be confronted with written Luxembourgish in their daily lives. In fact, newspapers, road signs and official letters and statements are typically published in French and/or German. Listening comprehension and verbal communication are therefore given a more prominent role in the book.
The INL is working on a second volume “Schwätzt Dir Lëtzebuergesch?“ for A2 level learners, due in autumn 2017
