Promoting digital skills among adult educators of older generations - DigIT project

We are pleased to announce the launch of a series of educational resources designed specifically to address the digital divide among older adults. Within the framework of the ''DigIT project - Promoting digital skills among adult educators of older generations'' (2021-1-ES01-KA210-ADU-000034953), we have developed a booklet in different languages that offers a variety of digital tools aimed at improving the teaching of adults over 60 years of age.

The objective of this booklet is to provide adult educators with the necessary tools to design high-quality educational programs that adapt to the needs of older people, especially those with low levels of digital skills, knowledge and competencies.

The European Union has recognized the importance of creating quality learning opportunities for older people and promoting an active aging lifestyle that addresses the digital divide. This project reflects those efforts, aligning with the recent "Green Paper" on aging and the Erasmus+ initiative to include all generations, with a particular focus on older adults.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the challenges faced by older adults, including a lack of digital skills and loneliness, as well as organizations’ lack of preparation for this digital shift. The disparity in access to technology and lack of knowledge about digital tools has exacerbated the digital divide among this demographic.

The booklet, available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, represents a significant step towards promoting digital skills among adult educators. We believe that by training educators, we can improve the quality of educational programs available to seniors, providing them with meaningful learning opportunities in an ever-evolving digital environment.

We find ourselves in a century captivated by new technologies, although despite this, there are a large number of adults who do not have enough skills to master this aspect. This is why I consider that addressing the digital divide among older adults by providing educators with tools to design educational programs is essential for adult education.
