The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities emphasizes the importance of person-centered care. This requires more than good intentions – it calls for changes in the structure of care organizations, management styles, organizational culture, and the skills of care professionals. In practice, however, this shift is still far from common.

The European Commission has also stressed that care and support must focus on Independent Living and Inclusion in the Community (Commission Notice, November 2024). 

Managers in care organizations play a crucial role in making this a reality.

To support them, the Support module for Management of Care Organizations was developed within the European Erasmus+ program. This practical training helps organizations take concrete steps toward more inclusive, person-centered care.

What does the training offer?

The module combines proven theories with real-life examples. Topics covered include:

1. human rights and the rights of persons with disabilities;
2. the shift from supply-driven care to demand-oriented support;
3. how care must be organized and the implications for organizational structure, management style, and culture;
4. the evolving role of care professionals;
5. strategies for adapting care approaches;
6. how to foster active participation in the community – and the roles various stakeholders play.

The module provides a solid foundation for building a more inclusive and participatory care system.

Practical information

The module includes a Reader, Practical manual, and PowerPoint presentations. All materials are freely available for download at www.smmco.eu. They can be used as a basis for further training and education.
