Think Twice - Supporting the Development of Media Literacy in Education

Discover Erasmus+ Partnership for Innovation project Think Twice as we move into our second year of implementation.

The Think Twice consortium is excited to announce that our project, a dynamic partnership for innovation in education, is celebrating its one-year anniversary! Launched in November 2023, the ThinkTwice project aims to enhance media literacy in educational settings across Europe. With a focus on promoting digital literacy and combating disinformation, the project is designed to equip educators, learners, policymakers, and local communities with the tools they need to navigate today’s fast-evolving media landscape.

As we approach our 12-month milestone, we are proud to share the progress we’ve made in empowering educators and learners alike. Think Twice is centred around four main concepts – Think Aloud, Think Outside the Box, Think Up, and Think Big. This forms the basis for each work package developed throughout the project’s lifecycle. Each work package has been carefully developed to offer practical and impactful resources to educators and learners, addressing the critical need for media and digital literacy in our interconnected world.

These concepts are covered in the project’s four work packages (WPs):

  • Think Aloud: Modular Workshop – Comprising six 3-hour workshops, this WP focuses on 12 concepts aimed at developing the digital and media literacy of educators. Based on the DigCompEdu Framework and UNESCO’s Media and Information Literacy resources, these modular workshops cover 12 key concepts for developing essential media literacy skills. By the end of this phase, participants will be equipped with a deeper understanding of digital ethics, critical thinking, and the tools to teach these competences.
  • Think Outside the Box: Gamification of Media Literacy – Gamification is a powerful tool to engage learners of all ages, and our Think Twice Game is designed to do just that. With three levels catering to different age groups—children aged 8-12, teens, and adults—the ThinkTwice game aims to develop core media literacy skills through interactive challenges. This engaging resource will soon be available on the Think Twice website in all partner languages.
  • Think Up: Supporting Education Providers and Educators in Developing Digital Literacy and Media Literacy – To further support educators, Think Twice is developing two essential resources: the Think Ahead Guide and Think for Yourself micro-credentials. This guide will help educators create personalised digital literacy action plans, while the micro-credentials will set out clear profiles for media-literate educators in primary, secondary, and adult education. These resources will provide much-needed Continuous Professional Development (CPD) support to educators in tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy.
  • Think Big: Promoting Digital and Media Literacy – A key component of our project is spreading awareness and advocating for media literacy across all age groups. Our targeted media campaign will focus on promoting the Think Twice project and its outputs to a wide audience, ensuring that the tools and resources we’ve developed have a lasting impact on learners, educators, and the broader community.

You can check out our produced outputs here.

The Think Twice project brings together nine partner organisations from Croatia, Portugal, Italy, Romania, Lithuania, Greece, France, and Ireland. This consortium has come together to bring bespoke digital and media literacy training, tools, and resources to their local communities to build more proactive digital citizens. Through collaboration and the sharing of best practices, this consortium is contributing to a more digitally savvy and media-aware generation of learners.

In the past year, the ThinkTwice partners have piloted the Think Aloud Modular Workshops with educators across Europe. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants reporting increased confidence in teaching media literacy and addressing disinformation. As we move forward, our focus will shift towards the development of the Think Twice Game and finalising the Think Up CPD resources. These next steps will further strengthen our efforts to equip educators and learners with the necessary skills to become informed digital citizens.

Next month, the partnership will meet in Paris, France, for the ThinkTwice second transnational partner meeting. During this meeting, project partners will assess the progress to date and plan the next stages of the project’s implementation. This meeting will not only mark the 12-month milestone of the project but will also serve as an opportunity to reflect on the impact we have achieved and chart a course for the future.

The ThinkTwice project partners want to invite educators, learners, and all those interested in media literacy to explore the outputs we’ve developed over the past year. From workshop materials to gamified learning tools, Think Twice offers valuable resources for anyone looking to enhance their digital competence and understanding of the media landscape.
