From simple board to AI: Transforming Language Teaching

The Intera School of Foreign Languages, Zlatar, Croatia, implemented the Erasmus+ project titled "Innovative Methods, Tools and skills in language teaching"

Three Mobilities, One Vision:

  • Bologna, Italy:The first mobility was in Bologna where Jasna Polanović attended a training from July 28 to August 3 2024, focusing on innovative language teaching methods. She explored new strategies, a plethora of digital tools, and student-centred approaches aimed at boosting motivation and engagement. She came back enriched with knowledge of Actionbound application for outdoor learning which students welcomed with open arms and Project Based Learning strategies. She learned about geese method in carrying out group work, learned the difference between formal, non-formal and informal education, and all these while sharing experience with teachers from Spain, Germany, Finland, Czech Republic, Poland and a fellow Croatian working in German school.
  • Dublin, Ireland - 21st century skills for teachers and learners

Teacher Mateja Posavec participated from August 3 to 10 2024 in a course where she learned how to integrate 21st-century skills into language education. Her focus included fostering learner motivation and designing lesson plans for flipped classrooms. There was also a lesson on Irish traditional dance which she especially enjoyed, cultural exchange with colleagues from another Croatian school, Czech Republic, Italian, German but also a teacher from the USA. She presented typical Croatian food and drinks which the fellow teachers loved, especially Cedevita, a beverage favourite in every Croatian home. We were enriched from this course by activities such as 7 word biography, thinking hats and optimist/pessimist, which, later when implemented into lessons, our adult students turned to even when it was not planned.

  • Dublin, Ireland - Artificial Intelligence for Education: Exploring the Frontiers of ICT. During the course in Ireland Sandra Gregurić really emersed into the world of tomorrow. Inspired by an excellent Europass Teachers Academy facilitator she explored the basics like ChatGpt and Copilot to Krea for creating images and videos, Suno for music,  AI teachers’ assistants Twee and Diffit and many others. What she found most engaging and an especially valuable add-on to this course were the discussions about the ethics of using Ai tools in classroom and the notion that was given at the start of the course that AI possibilities are infinite, the only boundary is our imagination.

Long-Term Impact

Over the project’s duration—from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025—the Intera team translated newly acquired knowledge into classroom practices and materials tailored for our learners. We had fun with AI tools, playing games, working in groups and for adult students this brings memories of childhood and we heard many stories on one side and a new approach to learning since, for some, more that half a century gap stands between their last learning experience and this one.

Strengthening the Educational Community

This project is more than professional development; it's about strengthening institutional capacity, enriching transversal competences, and building bridges across European education systems. It reflects our belief that lifelong learning and international collaboration are key to educational excellence and this experience certainly brought us teachers closer together.

What an inspiring example of how meaningful mobility experiences can spark innovation and connection! It’s wonderful to see how each teacher brought back fresh ideas—from digital tools and AI to creative teaching strategies and cultural exchange—that are already enriching classrooms and engaging learners in new ways. A great testament to the power of collaboration, lifelong learning, and the shared vision of building a stronger educational community across Europe. Well done to everyone involved!
