The SEMVA project: a key educational resource for European schools

Volume 1 of the SEMVA pedagogical guide presents the European key competences and their implementation in the French and Romanian school curricula. In France, the link between the European Key Competencies and the national education curriculum is reflected in the creation of a socle commun de connaissances, de compétences et de culture, which promotes a holistic education. In Romania, a far-reaching reform of school curricula aims to align local educational practices with European standards.

Education and sport at the service of educational innovation
The "Sport and Education: Same Values" (SEMVA) project, supported by Erasmus+, proposes an innovative and engaging method for teaching civic, European and environmental values. By integrating escapade games into educational practices, it offers teachers a concrete and captivating approach to encourage learning.
A three-volume teaching guide
At the heart of the project, a three-volume teaching guide is currently being produced. This guide will be a comprehensive and evolving resource for the educational community, bringing together practical tools, analyses and detailed scenarios to exploit the full potential of escapist games.
Volume 1: European key competences and their implementation in the French and Romanian school curricula (available now).
This first volume, presented in this article, offers an in-depth analysis of the key competences defined by the European Union and explains how they are integrated into the French and Romanian education systems. It explores the educational foundations on which the SEMVA project is based.
Volume 2: The SEMVA Escape Games educational framework (to be published in 2025). This volume will describe in detail the methodology and pedagogical principles underlying the use of escapade games as educational tools. It will provide a theoretical basis for understanding their impact on learning.
Volume 3: SEMVA Escape Games: activity sheets, game cards and practical advice (to be published in 2025). This volume will contain resources that can be used directly: ready-to-use worksheets, game cards and practical advice for implementing escapist games in different school contexts.
A focus on Volume 1: the foundations of European education
This first volume is an essential introduction to the SEMVA project, establishing the link between European key competences and their application in education systems. In France, this involves the common framework of knowledge and culture, while in Romania, school curricula need to be overhauled to incorporate these approaches.
A constantly evolving resource
The SEMVA teaching guide as a whole is intended to be an evolving tool that will support teachers at every stage of the project. While Volume 1 establishes the theoretical framework, the following two volumes will provide concrete ways of applying these concepts in the classroom. The publication of Volumes 2 and 3 in 2025 will mark a decisive step towards enabling the educational community to benefit fully from this innovative method.
