SafeSpace4Youth Project - Empowering Youth for Positive Mental Health and Employability through Social Action

Discover how the SafeSpace4Youth project empowers youth and professionals to promote mental health and employability through innovative social action projects.

After two years of successful implementation, the SafeSpace4Youth (SS4Y) project is moving towards ensuring its long-term sustainability and exploitation of its results. Partners in the consortium are proud of the outputs they have delivered, which have been positively received by key stakeholders. This article provides an overview of the project, its key deliverables, and the anticipated long-term impact.

Project Background

The SafeSpace4Youth project, started in October 2022, bringing together three key partner organisations: SEMWell Motion Digital (Czech Republic), Future in Perspective (Ireland), and Backslash (Spain). The project addresses a critical issue faced by young people across Europe: the intersection of mental health and employability. Young people, especially those with mental health challenges, face significant barriers to education, training, and employment. The SS4Y project seeks to address these barriers by empowering youth workers and young people to take action and develop the skills necessary for positive mental health and employability.

Project Deliverables At the core of SS4Y’s success are the following deliverables, which were developed to support youth professionals and young people in addressing mental health and employability:

  • SS4Y Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Programme: A comprehensive training programme for youth workers, focusing on mental health prevention and early intervention strategies, equipping them with the skills to create safe spaces and support young people in building resilience and employability skills.
  • A Peer Leadership Programme for Young People: A tailored programme that empowers young people to take on leadership roles within their communities, advocating for mental health awareness and promoting social action projects.

Project Impact and Events

SS4Y has achieved notable milestones, including productive transnational meetings, pilot testing of resources, and dissemination events in Czechia, Spain and Ireland. These events have significantly raised awareness about youth mental health, and the project has engaged with key stakeholders at local, national, and EU levels.

Sustainability and Long-term Impact

Although the SS4Y project is approaching its end, its outputs will remain accessible through the project’s eLearning platform on the project website (https://safespace4youth.eu/e-learning/), ensuring that youth workers and young people across Europe can continue to benefit from its resources. The partners have also committed to an exploitation plan that ensures the longevity of the project's outcomes beyond the formal project period.
