PROMOTE project

PROMOTE project encourages the continuous training of prison professionals to improve skills and promote social and labor reintegration.

The PROMOTE project (101144006-PROMOTE-ERASMUS-EDU-2023-PEX-COVE) seeks to design and implement an integrated system of continuous training for practitioners and other actors working in the penitentiary field, in order to improve the effectiveness of social and labor reinsertion programs for persons deprived of liberty, reducing recidivism through:

  • Needs assessment and stakeholder engagement for the process of professionalization of prison skills and for the creation of a self-sustaining and regenerative PROMOTE
  • Prison skills improvement framework and dissemination of the PROMOTE methodology
  • Establishing Centers of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) and improving Vocational Training in the prison system
  • Deliver comprehensive educational programs and recognize learning experiences for professionals in prison competences
  • Evaluate, validate and recognize learning pathways
  • Establish effective PROMOTE dissemination and exploitation strategies
  • To enhance the impact and sustainability of the project.

Why did this project arise?

  1. Lack of a common vision of competences: there is currently no unifed framework that describes and professionalizes the skills needed to accompany released persons towards labor and social inclusion.
  2. Diversity of actors: along with prison staaf, there are numerous external professionals (NGOs, social services, helath, employment...) whose profiles and training needs are not coordinated.
  3. Discontinuous and fragmented training: there is a lack a permanent learning mechanism, recognition of previous learning and validation of micro-credentials adapted to each practice.
  4. Social impact: improving the traininf of these professionals is essential to reduce recidivism, promoting employability and socioemocional skills in inmates.

What will be worked on in the PROMOTE project?

The project is structured in 5 work packages:

  1. WP! - project management: its objective is the coordination of the project activities, quality assurance and carrying out continuous monitoring and evaluation.
  2. European Prison Skills Ecosystem for prison and non-prison staff working with prisoners and facilitating the reintegration into society after release: its objective is to define, analyze and disseminate key competences for prison and non-prison staff involved in the reintegration of inmates.
  3. WP3 - Creation of Vocational Training Center of Excellence (CoVEs) in the prison sector with curricula concepts and certificates, digital tools and instruments: its objective is to establish model training centers with curricular structure, certification mechanisms and digital tools adapted to the prison context.
  4. WP4 - Providing learning pathways and career guidance: its objective is to design and implement customized learning paths combining face-to-face and digital training, including mentoring and validation of experiences.
  5. WP5 - Dissemination and exploitation activities: its objectives is to promote the results of the project, facilitate its replicability and ensure its sustainability through effective communication strategies.
