Weaving Digital Communities: My Path through EPALE and Women's Entrepreneurship

Camila Rodrigues

Short biography

I'm an activist committed to gender equality, social justice and inclusive education. I founded Women at Work (Mulheres à Obra) to empower women through collaboration, peer learning and economic autonomy. My work bridges personal resilience with collective action, always guided by empathy, justice and a belief in the transformative power of community.

My Story

Joining the EPALE community was a turning point in my personal and professional journey. As the founder and manager of Mulheres à Obra, an online community of nearly 200,000 women entrepreneurs, I have long believed in the power of digital networks to connect, empower and transform lives. EPALE confirmed and deepened this belief - but also brought structure, methodology and an international perspective.

Over the past 3 years, participating in Erasmus Plus projects as a newcomer organisation has been one of the most empowering aspects of my engagement in adult education. These opportunities allowed me and the community I lead to gain international experience and visibility. More importantly, they have enabled us to implement ideas that previously existed only as concepts - especially around peer learning.

I'm an activist for gender equality, social justice and inclusive education. I founded Women at Work (Mulheres à Obra) to empower women through collaboration, peer learning and economic autonomy. My work bridges personal resilience with collective action, always guided by empathy, justice and a belief in the transformative power of community.

Through these projects we have developed a collaborative learning model where women entrepreneurs support each other professionally and emotionally, sharing knowledge, tools and contacts in a spirit of mutual growth. EPALE played a role in this process. The platform connected us to similar initiatives across Europe, broadened our understanding of adult learning strategies and helped us to visualise new possibilities for our work.

As a gender equality activist and adult learning practitioner, I have come to see EPALE not only as a resource hub, but as an interesting community of practice. I've discovered tools, methodologies and voices that resonate with my values of solidarity, equity and empowerment. The collective knowledge shared through members' contributions and discussions has helped me adapt our work to changing needs, from digital literacy to women's economic autonomy.

Every month, the Mulheres à Obra community sees over 3,000 posts, generating tens of thousands of comments and interactions. Managing this level of engagement has taught me a lot about community dynamics, informal learning and the role of digital platforms in adult education. It has also reinforced my belief that EPALE has the potential to become a leading social network for adult educators in Europe, a place where ideas meet practice and where professionals can build lasting, impactful connections.

Looking to the future, I see EPALE continuing to grow as a participatory and inclusive space, not only for institutions, but also for grassroots educators and community builders like myself. I hope to see even more integration between online and offline activities, more multilingual and multimedia content, and more opportunities for peer exchange and co-creation.

Ultimately, EPALE has helped me to turn challenges into projects, ideas into actions, and local practices into European collaborations. It has been a journey of empowerment that I am proud to share and continue.
