How you can help the environment with a European Solidarity Corps project

More and more young people and organisations are increasing their awareness of how to protect the environment and be more sustainable. The European Solidarity Corps would therefore like to share how you can gain funding to make a difference and make a change to help protect the environment for a sustainable future.
The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a European Commission initiative to fund projects that promote solidarity as a value and respond to societal challenges, such as climate change. Across Europe organisations and groups of young people have created projects to make a difference in their communities. Find inspiration below for your own environmental Solidarity Corps project and be inspired to take action now in time for the next deadlines in 2020 on 30 April and 1 October 2020, 11 am (UK time).
Solidarity Projects
This type of Solidarity Corps project is a youth-led activity, where informal groups of at least five young people (aged 18 -30 years old) can get funding to run a project in the UK, lasting between two and 12 months. The funding can help them to bring positive change to their local communities, have their voices heard and develop valuable skills. Organisations can help proactive groups of young people to apply.
Support is available! Start by looking at our Solidarity Project Planner video tutorial. The Planner is designed to help groups get creative and develop their own project ideas.

Traineeships and Jobs
Through a Solidarity Corps Traineeships or Jobs project, organisations can provide a meaningful experience for young people to gain skills in the labour market. Organisations benefit from gaining an enthusiastic young person to freshen their workforce and bring new ideas, who can be tailored to their business activities.
See what other Traineeships and Jobs projects look like with an example project outline below:

Activities for young person:
- help to develop activities and workshops and to coordinate and answer queries about the same
- create resources and provide support for project promotion
- Present and support activities and workshops in various settings and at events with different target groups

If your organisation is trying to make a difference to protect the environment, take the first steps in applying for a project by applying for a Quality Label, which is a certification to ensure quality standards and help organisations find partners. You can then access the European Solidarity Corps Portal where there are thousands of young people across Europe waiting for an opportunity to get involved!
