Equipping young adults for professional integration: CLIC'N'JOB

CLIC'N'JOB arose from a conclusion reached in the course of an anthropological study: although young people have a general digital reflex which they use for recreational purposes, they have considerable difficulties in using it in an appropriate way for professional integration

CLIC'N'JOB arose from a conclusion reached in the course of an anthropological study: although young people have a general digital reflex which they use for recreational purposes, they have considerable difficulties in using it in an appropriate way for professional integration (cf "Young people's digital habits in socio-professional integration," Emmaüs Connect). With this in mind, we have created the CLIC'N'JOB platform, to respond to the problem.

How does the CLIC'N'JOB site work?

Jointly constructed with stakeholders in the field (local projects, Second Chance Schools, EPIDE Centres, etc) and young people themselves, clicnjob.fr is a tool which aims to help with the professional integration of young peoople aged from 16-25. Thanks to IT, we have put in place some levers, mainly light-hearted, such as quizzes, a CV generator, a video, gaming for points, etc, which should motivate young people while taking the drama out of subjects which are often perceived as taboo, or difficult. The site offers educational training on major themes: do my CV, prepare for a job interview, use my network, etc. Everything is accessible, either individually or by using workshops within partner structures such as local projects, Second Chance Schools, etc.

How do helpers use the site?

The platform was designed to respond to several needs for support professionals: it offers tools for free services; facilitates follow-up and support; enriches the workshop offer; strengthens the collective at Garantie Jeune (Youth Guarantee) workshops; and keeps young people informed at a distance. The function the most requested by the professionals is that of support for collective workshops. Its features allow the use of the tool to be well anchored in human support. These uses involved the establishment of new digital reflexes for advisers; WeTechCare has therefore developed support activities to guide the professional integration structures for young people in their transition to IT.

What is the feedback a few months after the launch?

To date, we have had more than 160,000 users of the site, since its launch, and approximately 16,000 accounts have been created among the young people being monitored on local projects. These young people are extremely satisfied, it seems, since after a survey of approximately 200 youth, 98% would recommend it. In addition, more than 160 support structures use CLIC'N'JOB use in their everyday activities, mainly within the network of local projects.

What links do you maintain with the European dimension?

The struggle for digital inclusion is not, of course, confined to France: it is a true challenge on the European scale. We did, however, present the CLIC'N'JOB project to some members of the European Parliament, including Edouard Martin, in Brussels in 2016. Given the recent establishment of WeTechCare, we do not yet envisage the spread of our services on an international scale. On the other hand we would like, in the long term, to work with European partners offering similar tools or working on the same issues. In the shorter term, we intend to translate all of our training courses and platforms, so that they can be used by the greatest number of people.

What comes next in the future of Wetechcare?

Our next project, to be launched in 2018, is a CLIC'N'JOB application which directly targets young people by providing coaching routes towards employment, which will be complementary to the site and to the effort of supporting integration stakeholders in their digital transition. With Les Bons Clics, in 2018 we wish to act primarily on two key issues: the inclusion of banking and e-administration. Our goal is to make each individual autonomous and to give, or give back, the power to act to each person, thanks to IT. With 30% of the population having problems with digital technology, we must act on a large scale. That is why we involve all the participants in this issue, which is just as much the responsibility of the operators, communities, and stakeholders in the field.
