PEBBLE - Prison Education: Basic skills Blended E-learning

PEBBLE is a two-year collaborative project which is funded under the Lifelong Learning Programme. The project brings together a team of leading educational institutions and penal institutions in Europe with the aim to contribute to the prison education for inmates and more specifically the development of specific key competences through the use of e-learning training methodologies.
Objective
The ultimate aim of the project is to improve prison education in Europe by making basic skills learning more easily accessible to learners in correctional education.
Education in prison is seen as an effective rehabilitative method linking inmates with the society outside prison, enabling them to reassess their values, goals and priorities in life in a positive way, while acquiring the personal, social and technical skills necessary for a successful and permanent re-entry into society. This kind of education should aim not only at reducing the basic skills deficits of prisoners but at developing new skills, as well. This fact is certain to facilitate their successful (re)integration in society.
Thus, the PEBBLE project aims at improving the provisions in prison education by providing an integrated learning model, which will combat deficiencies in skills and competences of prisoners and will facilitate their personal development and their re-entry to society.
