On the 20th of April we visited the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas in Avilés.

In this school it is possibile to study three languages: German, English and French. We were very pleased and surprised to discover that this kind of schools in Spain are public and the Professors who teach there are recruited by the goverment, as in every other public school; that is a big difference between Spain and Italy, where all the language schools are privates.

When we arrived at the school we were welcomed by the school principal, who explained to us the main features of the school; she also guided us in a school tour and showed us how the school works.

After that, we went to the school library, where two of the English teachers welcomed us with a quiz regarding the school organization, based on what the principal told us earlier. There was a prize for the person who answered all the questions correctly, a USB pen drive.

After the quiz, the teachers organized another game, a “speed date”, that consisted in having to answer to a question or talking about something involving school matters in a limited amount of time. When the given time ended, we heard the ring of a bell that let us know that we had to change the speaking partner and talk about another subject. We enjoyed this game so much and the teachers told us that they organize this kind of meetings with students to improve their speaking skills in English.

The visit to the language school was one of the most interesting for us, because we learned a lot of new things having so much fun and we appreciated the school organization and the teachers’ competences.
