Knjižnica REČI, local lab in Ljubljana

Savsko naselje has been our focus point since 2013 and even though, we’ve been active in the neighbourhood for seven years, we recognized COMENSI as an opportunity to develop new projects in cooperation with local residents and to reconnect with local stakeholders.

One of our main objectives was to increase the role of Knjižnica REČI (Library of THINGS) as a neighbourhood hub. Library of THINGS is a new form of public service, established in 2015, where you can rent “anything but books”, for example, power tools, home appliances, tents or video projector. Local residents can also rent the space free of charge for different events, which gives the space the vibe of community living room. In the context of COMENSI, we are encouraging locals to connect with the community through events that they are co-creating.

KNJIŽNICA REČI + TI (LIBRARY OF THINGS + YOU)
In October 2019, we prepared a local call where we offered professional and financial support for activities and motivated the locals to propose their own events. We received 22 applications out of which we picked 9 activities. This method had a snowball effect:
- new event organizers have the role of local ambassadors who bring new users to our civic space. This way we can include certain target groups, which we couldn’t address with our previous activities.
- the open call reminded the residents that they could use our space for their activities free of charge.

LOCALS NEWSPAPER AND COMMUNITY ATLAS
Our local newspaper has been well received by the Savsko naselje residents. That’s why we decided to keep it as one of the communication channels. During COMENSI, we published two issues to promote our open call and community atlas. We used our atlas as a list of local organizations, services, craftsman and other useful information for daily errands. The second issue of our local newspaper had a special supplement: printed map of the neighbourhood.
