Die vhs Aschaffenburg ist die kommunale Weiterbildungseinrichtung in Stadt und Teilen des Landkreises Aschaffenburg. Die vhs ist ein städtisches Amt. Im Rahmen einer Zweckvereinbarung gewährleistet sie seit 1968 die Versorgung eines Teils des Aschaffenburger Landkreises mit Erwachsenenbildungsangeboten.

Die vhs ist in Unterfranken einer der größten Weiterbildungsträger im Bereich der Erwachsenenbildung. Das unmittelbare Einzugsgebiet umfasst etwa 170.000 Einwohner. Die Stadt Aschaffenburg hat davon über 70.600 Einwohner.

Die vhs hat ihren Hauptstandort in der Aschaffenburger Innenstadt, Luitpoldstraße 2, 63739 Aschaffenburg. Es gibt weitere Standorte im Stadtgebiet.

Die vhs handelt im gesetzlichen Auftrag nach Art. 83/1, dem Art. 139 der Bayerischen Verfassung („Die Erwachsenenbildung ist durch Volkshochschulen und sonstige mit öffentlichen Mitteln unterstützte Einrichtungen zu fördern.“)

Die vhs Aschaffenburg beschäftigt derzeit 32 Personen mit unterschiedlichen Stundenanteilen zwischen fünf und 39 Stunden. 

Es gibt derzeit drei Auszubildende und für den Beruf „Kauf-frau/-mann für Büromanagement“ sowie 2 FSJlerinnen.

Die meisten Mitarbeitenden sind am Standort Luitpoldstraße angesiedelt. Der Programmbereich Integration/Grundbildung/Schulabschlüsse befindet sich im Zentrum Integration in der Auhofstr. 9. 

Die vhs ist wesentliche lokale Mittlerin im Bereich «Lebenslanges Lernen». Sie erreicht große Teile bildungsferner Gruppen und erhöht somit eine Verbesserung von Wissen, Qualifikationen und Kompetenzen der Bevölkerung in Stadt und Landkreis. Außerdem ist sie das «Weiterbildungszentrum» für Migrant*innen, in der beruflichen Bildung, in der Nachwuchsförderung (junge vhs) und für Senior*innen.

Darüber hinaus bleibt die vhs bleibt weiterhin ein wichtiger sozialer Begegnungsort für die Bürger*innen von Stadt und Landkreis.

Das Programm der vhs umfasst Kurse, Seminare und andere Veranstaltungsformen (Einzelveranstaltungen, Studienfahrten etc.). Es richtet sich überwiegend an Erwachsene ab 15 Jahren. Es gibt zudem ein Angebot für Kinder und Jugendliche („junge vhs“). Diese Angebote sind offen für alle Menschen. Dabei stellt die Gesundheitsbildung den Bereich mit den meisten Kursen dar.

Hervorzuheben ist, dass das Führungsnetz und der Museumspädagogische Dienst der Stadt Aschaffenburg an der vhs angesiedelt ist. Außerdem betreibt der Programmbereich Kultur der vhs eine Artothek. Dadurch werden auch Menschen angesprochen, die sonst nicht unbedingt zum klassischen Zielpublikum der vhs gehören.

Als Prüfungskompetenzzentrum für Nordbayern führt die vhs verschiedene Sprachprüfungen auf fast allen Niveaustufen des GERR durch (Deutsch als Fremdsprache, Cambridge).

The vhs Aschaffenburg is the municipal further education institution in the city and parts of the district of Aschaffenburg. The vhs is a municipal office. As part of a special purpose agreement, it has guaranteed the supply of part of the Aschaffenburg district with adult education since 1968. The vhs is one of the largest providers of further training in the field of adult education in Lower Franconia. The immediate catchment area has around 170,000 inhabitants. The city of Aschaffenburg has over 70,600 inhabitants.

The vhs has its main location in the center of Aschaffenburg, Luitpoldstraße 2, 63739 Aschaffenburg. There are other locations in the city. The vhs acts on the legal mandate according to Art. 83/1, Art. 139 of the Bavarian Constitution ("Adult education is to be promoted by adult education centers and other institutions supported by public funds.") The vhs Aschaffenburg currently employs 32 people with different hours between five and 39 hours. There are currently three trainees for the profession of "office management clerk" and 2 FSJ students. Most of the employees are located at the Luitpoldstrasse location. The Integration/Basic Education/School Qualifications program area is located in the Integration Center on Auhofstr. 9.

The vhs is a key local intermediary in the field of lifelong learning. It reaches large parts of educationally disadvantaged groups and thus improves the knowledge, qualifications and skills of the population in the city and district. It is also the "further training center" for migrants, in vocational training, in the promotion of young people (young vhs) and for seniors. In addition, the vhs remains an important social meeting place for the citizens of the city and district.

The vhs program includes courses, seminars and other types of events (individual events, study trips, etc.). It is primarily aimed at adults aged 15 and over. There is also an offer for children and young people (“junge vhs”). These offers are open to all people. Health education is the area with the most courses. It should be emphasized that the guide network and the museum educational service of the city of Aschaffenburg are based at the vhs. The culture department of the vhs also runs an art library. This also appeals to people who otherwise do not necessarily belong to the classic target audience of the vhs.

As an examination competence center for Northern Bavaria, the vhs conducts various language examinations at almost all levels of the CEFR (German as a foreign language, Cambridge).
