Stiftung Neanderthal Museum

The Neanderthal Museum Foundation serves society as a mediating platform between complex science and socially relevant questions about human evolution. Research at the Neanderthal Museum promotes interdisciplinary exchange between archaeological, biological, sociological and philosophical research. With its work, the museum and its research strengthen the knowledge and awareness of human evolution in Germany.
"Where do we come from?" – "Who are we?" – "Where are we going?" These key questions form the guiding theme of the Neanderthal Museum. The permanent exhibition traces humankind's long journey from the savannah to the metropolises of today, with focus placed on the Neanderthals. The life-sized figures in the museum were created on the basis of fossil finds and scientific reconstruction methods.
With its range of versatile indoor and outdoor offers, the latter including the original discovery site with the "Höhlenblick" tower, an Ice Age Animal Park, a Stone Age Playground and several walking trails with audio stations, the museum and its surrounding "World of Discovery Neanderthal" is a unique place of Adult Learning in Europe.
