The Organization for Poverty Alleviaiton Development (OPAD)

The Organization for Poverty Alleviation and Development (OPAD) is an innovative, professional, active, reliable and efficient non-profit and non-governmental organization and is a registered voluntary organization based in Sweden, Stockholm region. It was founded on 10 February, 2008 by some residents of Alby, Botkyrka Municipality keen to exploit their competencies and to play an active role in contributing towards the alleviation of poverty and promotion of sustainable development within the community through the non-profit sector; and at the same time, enabling more adults to volunteer and actively participate at local, European and international levels.
The main aims of OPAD are:
-to promote adults and adult learning mobility and participation with particular regard to learners with fewer opportunities;
-to promote and to support volunteering at local, national, European and international levels as a tool to achieve a more inclusive and just society;
-to initiate and take part in activities, conferences, training, roundtables, in developmental and human right issues;
-to foster training, cooperation, and partnership between non-profit organizations and social workers;
-to provide assistance in the building of civil society through involving adults in participation in public life;
-to foster active citizenship, social and democratic engagement, overall of adults and disadvantaged people;
-to promote and elaborate the European and inter-cultural dimension in fighting racism and xenophobia.
OPAD's programmes are organized around five broad areas, namely, EU projects, education, social affairs, research and development, and adult initiatives. OPAD has gained significant experience in implementing adult volunteering, training, mentoring, skills building programmes at the local and European level over the years, therefore we believe that our institutional expertise makes us well placed to implement the Cooperation and Innovation for Good Practices Programme.
