NEVSEHIR HACI BEKTAS VELI UNIVERSITY

Located in the Central Anatolian Region of Turkey, in Nevşehir Province[1], Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University is a state university providing tertiary education established on May 17, 2007. In the first years its name was Nevşehir University but later with the Law No. 6501 published in the Official Gazette on 7 November 2013, it was changed and remained stable as Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University. Name comes from the famous Haci Bektas Veli who is the great Turkish philosopher of the 13th century[2].

With its 720 academic staff who work and study on scientific basis and as of 2020, more than 20 thousand students, NEVU is rapidly becoming a prominent university in regards to its physical and social provisions. Considering the importance of globalization among the rising values of today, NEVU constantly develops international cooperation with universities, educational organizations abroad and follows the developments in the world. Besides ensuring mutual exchange of teachers and students, NEVU is a university with the "Diploma Supplement" and "ECTS" label, which are known as the "Certificate of Excellence" in the international arena and awarded to the universities that meet the necessary conditions by the European Commission. All of its Vocational Colleges are in the network for Centres of Vocational Excellence https://www.etf.europa.eu/en/projects-activities/projects/network-excellence managed by the European Training Foundation. Centres of vocational excellence are organisations meeting criteria of innovation and quality in education and training provision and in how they respond to labour market skills demands.

NEVU[3] carries out its scientific activities in 7 different campuses with 9 faculties, 9 vocational colleges, 2 colleges, 4 institutes and 16 research and application centers within the 208,800 square meters of closed area. The Rectorate Building, Indoor Sports Hall and facilities, Central Classroom, Central Laboratory and Congress Center are located in the main campus.

NEVU has an Erasmus agreement under KA103 Programme[4] with 186 universities. It also has agreements with universities in Korea, China, Brazil, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Algeria, Iran, Pakistan, Ukraine and Tajikistan under the scope of Mevlana Exchange Program. NEVU is an ECHE holder Higher Education Institution since 2010. Recently we have been awarded the “Erasmus Charter For Higher Education 2021-2027” quality certificate by the European Commission. NEVU aims to improve students’ adaptation skills to a globalizing world and to enhance their employement opportunities in multicultural environments as global and multicultural citizens.

Nevşehir is in the heart of Cappadocia[5] - a very popular tourist attraction city in Turkey. Nevşehir[6] (the suffix “nev-“ means “new” in persian language) was once a town named “Mushkara” and became a province on July 20th, 1954. In addition to its geological uniqueness and its historical & cultural elements, Cappadocia is one of the most important culture and belief tourism centers both in Turkey and around the world.
