GREFA

More than 7000 wild animals per year are admitted at GREFA, an NGO based in Madrid (Spain) that works in the field of wildlife and environmental conservation since 1981. A Hospital, various Conservation Projects and an Educational Program are the key pillars of this NGO.
Since its creation GREFA has delivered several projects tackling threatened species in Spain and in other European countries. (LIFE Bonelli, AQUILA a-LIFE, Biological Pest Control Project, Lesser Kestrel Project , Monachus Project, etc..). At the core of this projects is the centre of captivity breeding where several species are bred every year to restock the natural populations.
GREFA's own education programme targets more than 10,000 students and the general public each year. To strengthen this programme, GREFA has coordinated two Erasmus+ projects (KA2): Bird's Eye View: Journey Diaries (about migratory journeys) https://birdsjourneydiaries.org/en/home/ and Docendo Discimus (about biodiversity in agricultural environments) https://docendodiscimus2024.org/en/. The aim is to raise awareness of the main threats to wildlife and their habitats and to encourage people to adopt behaviours that promote biodiversity conservation.
