The SUBA project: bioclimatic construction and training professionals sharing expertise in Europe and Senegal

[Translation : EPALE France]
Managed by the GIP-FCIP in Créteil, the SUBA (meaning “tomorrow” in Wolof) project involves six partners from three European countries and Senegal, working towards a common goal: to support those involved in training and business in acquiring new skills in an innovative sector: building with raw earth.
A group of learners, trainers and professionals from the building and public works sector, engineers in training, architects and company directors, selected from each country, discovered the raw earth construction practices used in Senegal, Portugal, Finland and France.
Building with raw earth is an age-old skill that uses different techniques depending on the qualities and characteristics of the soil, the idea being to build with the earth and the resources available locally. Using very little grey energy and requiring no firing or transport, raw earth can be recycled ad infinitum. With global warming in mind, the temperature and humidity-regulating properties of this material make it ideal for rediscovery.
This project has created a real dynamic within the consortium, with new entrepreneurial partnerships between architects, straw builders and plastering specialists. A new, larger-scale Erasmus+ project (RE-FRESH) on the construction of cool islands has also been selected by the Erasmus+ agency.
