At the 4th International Conference on Advancement in Science and Technology – COAST 2025, held from June 4 to 7, 2025, in Herceg Novi, the Erasmus+ SMART project was presented under the full title: Innovation Centres for the Development of Innovative and Entrepreneurial Thinking to Facilitate the Development of Sustainable Smart Solutions in the Western Balkans.

The main goal of the SMART project is to empower partner higher education institutions from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro to move beyond their traditional role as knowledge transmitters and become active players in the development of regional innovation ecosystems. This is to be achieved through engagement with the wider community and relevant stakeholders.

The project contributes to improving the quality of higher education by introducing modern teaching and learning models into curricula — including online methods, tools, interdisciplinary learning, virtual mobility, and peer-to-peer exchange of experiences and best practices. A special focus is placed on the establishment and development of SMART Innovation Centre, which will serve as key hubs for implementing these innovations and generating broader societal impact.
