SEE4.0 – Enabling Industry 4.0 in Small European Enterprises: Results

The main aim of the SEE4.0 project is to strengthen key competences (required by Industry 4.0) of SMEs owners and managers through developing innovative training materials in order to train and equip this group with Industry 4.0 relevant knowledge, skills and competences. SMEs having owners and managers aware of Ind4.0 and equipped with skills to implement Ind4.0 solutions, that are inevitable in today’s and tomorrow's business market conditions, will have ability to gain competitiveness.

The project is developed by partners from Poland (Danmar Computers), Romania (SC Ludor Engineering SRL, UNIVERSITATEA POLITEHNICA DIN BUCURESTI), Spain (FYG CONSULTORE), Malta (MECB) and Greece (HERAKLION CHAMBER, KAINOTOMIA & SIA EE).

As part of the project the following outputs were created:

  • O1: Introducing Industry 4.0 to SMEs – practical implementation paper

  • O2: SEE4.0 modular training components

  • O3: SEE4.0 toolkit with customised learning paths.

Content is targeted to learners' needs, as practical as possible, with case studies and best practices gathered right from the field where SMEs operate, in contrast to many already available theoretical materials, coming from research organisations or consulting companies, hardly applicable in SME settings.

Introducing Industry 4.0 to SMEs – practical implementation paper

This output aims to provide the information necessary to implement Industry 4.0 in the SME environment in the form of a set of "rules" suitable for SMEs that can be directly used by SME owners and managers. It will include practical approaches that support SMEs in implementing Industry 4.0, taking advantage of the decreasing costs of technologies such as 3D printing, robotics, augmented reality, etc.

SEE4.0 modular training components

The project includes the following components of modular training:

  • An Introduction to Digital Technologies for Industry 4.0

The aim of this training is to provide the information necessary to implement Industry 4.0 in the SME environment in the form of a set of "recipes" suitable for SMEs, which can be directly used by SME owners and managers.

  • ICT and Cybersecurity

Provides participants with an overview of cybersecurity challenges in Industry 4.0.

  • Industrial Robotics & Automation for Industry 4.0

To equip learners with knowledge for the implementation of industrial robotics within an automation environment. This will include covering some of the basics of industrial automation, and the latest development in collaborative robotics.

  • Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)

Aims to show what industrial automation is all about and how it is helpful in Industry 4.0.

  • CAD/CAM and 3D Printing in the Industry 4.0 Framework

To provide learners with the knowledge needed for selection and implementation of CAD/CAM and 3D printing technologies in SMEs.

  • Industry 4.0 and Sources of Funding

Provide guidance on funding opportunities for businesses that want to implement Industry 4.0 activities and invest in new technologies. It also helps entrepreneurs to better understand and take advantage of the various European, national and private funding opportunities that are suitable to transform their companies into "Industry 4.0 ready".

  • Exploiting Ind. 4.0 for Internationalization

The module provides students with the knowledge required by SMEs to use Industry 4.0 in their internationalisation processes. Rapid adaptation to the technological revolution is a key concept for companies on their way to increasing their competitive advantage in international markets.

SEE4.0 Toolkit With Customised Learning Paths

This Toolkit is an innovative learning place prepared in the form of an ‘Open Education Resource (OER)’ composed of several sections/modules:

  • Introducing Industry 4.0 to SMEs – practical implementation paper,
  • SEE4.0 modular training components,
  • A set of Case-studies about Industry 4.0 elements,
  • A set of relevant tools and resources explaining Industry 4.0 elements and concepts.

It is expected that SME owners, managers, VET trainers and various training organisations will strengthen and develop their competences by reading the training materials listed above. We encourage all stakeholders to visit the project website.
