Project meeting in Ghent, Belgium

Title of the Meeting:

Building up Partnership for Development and Ensuring Quality Assurance of Learning and Teaching Materials in Dari and Pashto

As part of our project goal to improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching by trainers and educators in relation to providing better educational materials that contribute to more effective integration of Afghan migrants in Europe, a two-day meeting was held in the city of Ghent, Belgium, with representatives from eight partner organizations.

Meeting Summary:

During the two-day stay, the participants discussed the objectives of the project, its detailed structure, and the practical possibilities and approaches for implementing it among partners. Each organization also presented their activities in the field of adult education, including the challenges, barriers, opportunities, and experiences they face, as well as the resources available to them to facilitate the achievement of the project’s goals.

Major Challenges Identified:

  • The growing number of Afghan refugees / migrants in Europe
  • Urgent review of an effective policy to support the economic, cultural, and social integration of Afghans in the host countries in a timely and efficient manner
  • Low literacy levels and limited educational backgrounds among many Afghan migrants
  • Limited understanding of the social and cultural life in the host countries
  • Language barriers
  • Psychological and emotional trauma experienced by many Afghan migrants, especially youth, due to prolonged war, violence, and deprivation in their home country

Key Questions and Tasks Identified:

Given the above challenges, the essential questions and tasks ahead of us include:

  • What resources and approaches can be used to train and empower educators and trainers to deliver high-quality and effective teaching materials in the native languages of the Afghan refugees (Dari and Pashto)?
  • How can this process contribute to a faster and more effective integration?

Evaluation of Educational Material Quality:

  • What methodology can be applied to measure and assess the effectiveness and quality of the educational materials being developed?

Call for Input and Collaboration:

  • We invite feedback, ideas, and experiences from all Afghan diaspora and other organizations and individuals working in adult education to be shared with us in a collaborative spirit.

Emphasized Points During the Meeting:

  • The importance of coordinated work, mutual cooperation, the formation of a productive working team, experience sharing, and establishing close relationships with other Afghan diaspora organizations were strongly emphasized.
