The European project Open Minds aims to increase the digital skills of one of the key sectors of European civil society: that covering social and cultural players and the broad public with whom they are in contact. The needs in terms of digital transition increased during the health crisis, which highlighted the extent of the digital divide and the need to increase digital skills.
To develop the project, we proposed to work along three lines: research and free access to a database of free software resources, 6 modules of training in environment open-source platform for socio-cultural actors, and regular publications in our website to encourage change towards free software.
Research and database on actors, entities, applications and testimonials on the use of open source software in Europe. Open to contributions from anyone who registers and based on a free software platform based on the wiki system.
Creation of 6 training modules that can be used in e-learning or blended learning format:
- Module 1: Collaboration and remote work tools (Collaborative space and document sharing, agenda, contacts, discussions, forum, project management, collaborative writing, video conference).
- Module 2: Communication (Websites - social networks - newsletter).
- Module 3: Multimedia solutions (Video, video capsules, short film, communication including sound and image, DTP).
- Module 4: Office tools and Internet (Office suite, navigation/message tools).
- Module 5: Management solutions (Members, contacts, customers, CRM, invoicing, accounting, project management).
- Module 6: Digital autonomy.
Regular publications on our website to encourage the shift to FOSS, to generate debate, to inform and to raise awareness.
The project ends in January 2025. The launch of the results of this project is planned for spring 2024, opening the platform with the database, nurturing the articles part for discussion and preparing the training pilots in each of the partner countries.
In terms of dissemination, there will be different events in each partner country to explain the results of the project and we will hold a final international conference in Brussels in January 2025.
