EPALE - Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe

News

Learning a new language has never been easier with EASE

The acronym EASE stands for "An Emotionally-intelligent Approach to teaching Speaking in a forEign Language". The project began on January 1, 2022 and ends on December 31, 2023.

The aim of this European project, funded by the Erasmus+ program, is to approach foreign language teaching from the angle of emotional intelligence. This method is considered innovative in the world of foreign language teaching, as it can help learners feel more at ease in the classroom and remove emotional barriers to learning. The goal of the EASE project is to help adult educators apply an emotionally intelligent approach to teaching oral skills by addressing emotional barriers to learning through blended continuing professional development sessions. EASE has therefore created three innovative sets of teaching and learning resources that are freely available online. These resources can be used directly by adult educators and learners across Europe.

Here's a micro-summary of the 3 resources developed:

  • booklet on incorporating Emotional Intelligence into Foreign Language Teaching: it provides teachers with concrete lessons that are ready to use in the classroom incorporating Emotional Intelligence to speaking foreign languages.
  • Blended face-to-face and online Continuing Professional Development sessions for language teachers on using EI approach: a series of 12 sessions to inform teachers about why and how to implement this approach, focusing on individual topics within the overarching theme of EI in the foreign language classroom.
  • EASE Self-Directed Learning Platform: Learners can practice their oral skills independently and thoughtfully with online exercises ranging from level A1 to C1. If learners are unsure of their level, they can take a language level test (also available on the platform). These exercises are available in English, French, Polish, German, Spanish and Romanian. The exercises are directly accessible here: https://easeplatform.eu/
