Gamification of Digital Learning

The sudden shift to digital learning due to the covid 19 pandemic had a significant impact on teaching and learning methods as well as noticeable consequences in delivering high-quality education and implementing innovative learning approaches. Thus, the “Gamification of Digital Learning” project aimed to develop and promote the necessary competences for secondary school teachers and educators in the use of gamification for an engaging, inclusive and high-quality digital teaching and learning. In particular, the objectives of the project were:

  • To increase teachers’ digital skills and awareness of digital resources for gamification, such as tools, applications and platforms;
  • To provide guidance and examples to make the teachers and educators confident and able to use gamified lessons;
  • To foster students’ engagement and participation in online (synchronous and asynchronous) learning;
  • To ensure a high quality and inclusive education for students in digital learning context.

The “GDL” project has produced the following results:

  • A Compendium of Methods for Gamification in Digital Learning (R1)which provides information about the development and status of gamification in digital education
  • A technical toolbox (R2) will gather and present a selection of 40 currently available online resources, tools, and software to be used for gamification in digital learning
  • eLearning module is a free online course for teachers, trainers and educators, in particular of secondary school level, which aims to enhance their understanding and confidence on using gamification in digital learning, in a simple and practical way.
  • Pedagogical sequences (R4) are practically examples of 15 lesson plans that are using gamification elements for digital learning.
  •  Explanatory tools sheets (R5) give the detailed process and steps the teacher should follow regarding the application of tools for gamification on each sequence produced in R4
