Erasmus Project - "Andragogy Model used in adult education in European countries"

The Erasmus+ Project of our institution, ‘Andragogy Model used in adult education in European countries’, which is accepted as a part of learning mobilty of individuals and mobility in Adult Education and training was performed  in Milano, ITALY.

Andragogy is Greek originated word means man-leading in comparison to pedagogy which means child-leading. So andragogy is the art and science of adult learning.  When we have a look at the adult education system in our country we can see that pedagogy model is widely used. However adult education differs from child education in many fields such as self-perception, readiness to learn, experience, learning orientation and motivation. For this reason, using the rules of child education in adult education affects the success of the education negatively. It will be possible to increase the quality of adult education by disseminating the Andragogy modal which is defined as “The art and science of help and guidance to adult learning” in our education system. We prepared our project in order to increase the professional competence of our participating teachers about Andragogy modal.

During our Project studies the institutions that give education regarding adult education in Milano was visited under the supervision of host institution, Giovani per I’Europa, and on the job trainings were watched on site. Besides Consulate general of Turkey and mayorship of Milano was visited by our committee.

This Erasmus+ project is an excellent example of connecting different approaches to andragogy across European countries. I highly appreciate the focus on the differences between pedagogy and andragogy, as adopting the right approach in adult education is crucial for improving its quality. Visiting educational institutions in Milan and observing teaching methods on-site must have been both inspiring and beneficial for enhancing the participants' professional competencies. Such projects provide valuable experiences and can support the implementation of andragogical principles in other education systems as well.
