Empowering Active Citizenship: The CIVIC GREEN Project

Financed by the ERASMUS+ programme, CivicGreen project nr.: 2022-1-BE01-KA220-ADU-000088255 stands out as a collaborative European effort, designed to empower citizens, educators, and public institutions. Its core mission is to enhance civic engagement in environmental action, promoting a sustainable future for all.

The Scope and Objectives of CivicGreen project

The CivicGreen project's objectives are carefully designed to create a substantial impact on both societal and individual levels. By empowering Europeans to become active participants in the civic sphere, particularly in environmental matters, the project aligns with broader EU strategies on sustainable development and climate change mitigation.

The emphasis on educational and technological tools ensures that the project's outcomes are scalable and adaptable, providing a template for future initiatives. The project not only aims to raise awareness but also to equip citizens with the necessary skills and knowledge to make informed decisions and take meaningful actions that contribute to the environmental and democratic health of their communities.

A Vision for Enhanced Civic Participation:

The project partnership is spread across Europe, including B.A.O.-Jeunesse from Belgium (Leader), Mindshift Talent Advisory from Portugal, Forum Citoyens - Burgers asbl (FCB)-from Belgium, SOLIDARIDAD SIN FRONTERAS (SSF) from Spain, ISTANBUL VALILIGI from Türkiye, INNOPOLIS - Centre for Innovation and Culture from Greece, Meta4 Innovations from Austria. Each partner brings a unique perspective and expertise, offering to the CIVIC GREEN project a wealth of ideas and solutions aimed at environmental sustainability.

Innovative Tools and Platforms for Community Action:

A cornerstone of the CivicGreen project is its innovative approach to community engagement through technology and education, through its key deliverables:

  • Online Community Engagement Platform: This platform will serve as a dynamic space for individuals and groups to connect, share ideas, and collaborate on environmental initiatives.
  • Civic Monitoring Tool: Designed to enhance transparency and participation: this tool will enable citizens to actively engage in the civic landscape, monitoring and influencing public affairs and environmental policies.
  • Community of Practices (COP): A dedicated network for those committed to influencing environmental policies and practices, fostering a collaborative environment for sharing expertise and driving change.
  • Flexible Learning with MOOCs: The project has produced eight Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), accompanied by various educational resources to support learning at one's own pace, focusing on environmental stewardship and civic responsibilities.
  • Competence Framework Model: Utilizing the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and the European Credit system for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET), the project aims to develop a solid framework that outlines essential competencies for active citizenship and environmental action.

Conclusion

The CIVIC GREEN project is a timely initiative. By creating pathways for education, participation, and action, it embodies the spirit of the European commitment to sustainable development and active citizenship.
