Drama and improvisation for teachers with Peter Dyer

Slovakia, Bratislava
Monday, August 4, 2025 - 08:55 CEST to Friday, August 8, 2025 - 16:55 CEST

The week-long intensive course Drama and Improvisation for Teachers is designed for educators who want to improve their classroom speech and presentation and bring new interactive elements into the classroom. It is recommended that participants be at least at an intermediate level of English, as the course uses English only as a vehicle for teaching other skills.

We begin by working on relaxing the participants and creating a comfortable, confidential and cooperative environment. Proven methods will free us from self-doubt and criticism, opening the door to a free space where we can easily share ideas with each other. Over the duration of the course, we progressively hone different methods and techniques to find our own inner resources to invent and create collaborative games. At the same time, we learn a wide range of exceptional practices that will enrich every classroom.

We will learn vocal and physical improvisation, explore the language of human gesticulation in improvisation, develop play and dialogue, and move into individual and group story sharing. Learn how to use visual elements in speech through improvisational role play and creative writing. Practice applying speaking activities in the classroom to relax students' speech and also develop their creative writing through, for example, practicing pair and group role plays based on simple improvisational prompts, or through vocal improvisation activities to develop spontaneity and imagination.  Each practice also has a positive effect on strengthening cooperation and cohesion in the classroom, which multiplies the benefits of these methods for improving the quality of the teaching process.

At the end of the course participants can expect an overall improvement in their own expression - working consciously with intonation, word stress, and pause, thus becoming more motivated speakers in the classroom as well as in everyday social interactions.

At the end of the course you will receive the Certificate of Attendance and Europass Mobility document, or any other document your organisation/school requires to submit for applying Erasmus+ programme.

Who is the course for

The one-week intensive course is designed for teachers who want to enrich their communication and collaboration skills and pass them on to their students. No prior knowledge in this area is required, but participants should be at least at an intermediate level of English to be able to fully immerse themselves in all the activities. The course is suitable for teachers who are prepared to try out the activities in person and freely share their ideas with other course participants.
