Closing the Eu+Map Project: Empowering Migrants Through Language and Inclusion

As the Eu+Map project comes to an end, we’re proud to reflect on the results we’ve made in enhancing language education for migrants and fostering social inclusion across Europe. After 2 years of collaborative efforts, we are proud to announce the completion of all major project activities, including the successful piloting of language courses, the publication of the Eu+Map Teacher’s Manual, and the creation of innovative resources designed to bridge educational gaps for socially marginalised migrants.
The Eu+Map Journey: What Was It All About?
The Eu+Map project, co-funded by the European Union, set out to do something powerful: upskill language trainers while providing informal language courses tailored specifically for migrants. By improving the skills of educators and offering courses that consider the emotional and social needs of migrants, the project aimed to make a real difference in the lives of those at risk of social exclusion. Along the way, we’ve created new paths for learning and inclusion, offering opportunities to migrants who might otherwise be left behind.
What The project´s Achieved
1. The Eu+Map Teacher Manual: https://euplusmap.eu/resources/
One of the major outcomes of this project is the Eu+Map Teacher Manual, now available in eight languages. It’s a comprehensive guide for educators, packed with innovative teaching methods that focus on emotional engagement and positive experiences. These methods have been tested in pilot courses and are designed to create a supportive, inclusive learning environment for migrants. The manual brings together insights from expert language teachers across Europe and is now available for anyone to use.
2. Ready-to-Use Language Courses https://euplusmap.eu/resources/
A significant part of the Eu+Map project was creating seven language course prototypes, designed specifically for migrants. These courses take a fresh approach, using storytelling and real-life positive experiences to engage learners. Over 350 migrants from across Europe have already participated in these pilot programs, sharing their personal stories and connecting with others through language learning. The result? Learners not only improve their language skills but also feel more connected to their new communities.
3. Digital Learning Space and the Map of Experiences https://elearn.euplusmap.eu/
To make sure that these resources reach as many people as possible, we developed a digital learning platform. Trainers and learners can access course materials, lesson plans, and a range of other resources through this online space.
4. The Digital Map of Migrant Experiences https://euplusmap.know-it.gr/
One of the most innovative features of the Eu+Map project is the creation of a Digital Map, which collects over 350 personal stories from migrants across seven European countries. These stories highlight migrants’ positive experiences in their host countries, offering a unique way for learners to connect with each other and with the communities around them. The map serves as both a learning tool and a platform for migrants to share their journeys, creating a sense of belonging and promoting social inclusion.
5. Open Days and Sharing the Results
As the project comes to a close, we’ve held a series of "Open Days" across Europe, where we’ve shared the project’s results with trainers, institutions, and migrants. These events have been crucial in raising awareness about the value of our innovative teaching methods.
What’s Next for Eu+Map?
The Eu+Map project has been a collaborative effort, with partners from Italy, Greece, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and Denmark all working together to make a difference.
Though the official project is wrapping up, the impact of Eu+Map will live on. The resources we’ve developed—like the Teacher’s Manual, the language courses, and the digital learning space—are all available for anyone to use. We are inviting educators and organisations to continue using these tools that will empower migrants and promote social inclusion long into the future.
