Bulgaria was announced as a winner of one of six new European AI factories! The project, valued at €90 million, is a collaboration between INSAIT and Sofia Tech Park. The funding will be used to establish a modern GPU AI data center in Sofia, supporting large-scale AI projects at INSAIT and beyond.

Bulgaria joins Austria, France, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia as one of the countries that have won an AI factory. Securing an AI factory is yet another step in INSAIT’s strategy to position Bulgaria on the global AI map.

The Bulgarian AI Factory, BRAIN++, will be located at Sofia Tech Park in Sofia, Bulgaria, and will consist of two key components working in synergy:

• Discoverer++ – a next-generation supercomputer designed for advanced AI workloads.
• The Bulgarian AI Factory – a comprehensive AI hub offering a one-stop-shop for governmental institutions, educational organizations, and private companies to adopt and responsibly innovate with AI.

The BRAIN++ initiative aims to position Bulgaria as a regional leader in AI innovation by:

• Developing AI talent and education programs.
• Supporting startups and SMEs.
• Advancing Bulgarian Language LLMs, Robotics AI, Space Observation AI, and AI-driven product manufacturing (with a focus on consumer goods).
• Creating Trustworthy AI Compliance Tools.
• Establishing a Federated AI Data Lake.
• Building collaborative offices and virtual AI workspaces (BulgAI Sandbox).
• Promoting AI skills development and responsible AI entrepreneurship.

By integrating with other EuroHPC AI Factories across Europe, BRAIN++ will contribute to a unified European AI ecosystem, while promoting ethical and responsible AI practices.
