THE IN-BETWEEN: 2026 EPALE Community Stories

When did learning stop being just about skills and become something more... about meaning, balance, or a fuller life? Share your story!

EPALE invites you to share stories that explore the profound connection between professional growth and personal wellbeing in adult education. We're looking for stories that blur the line between professional and personal growth - moments when adult education became about wholeness, not just competence. How does learning contribute to living well, not just working better?  Every educator carries experiences where learning transcended professional development and touched something deeper. Moments when knowledge became a path to fulfilment, when work and life enriched each other, or when education revealed itself as a tool for human flourishing, not just competence.

We want to hear these stories.

We're looking for authentic, personal narratives (800-1500 words) that capture moments where adult education - whether your own learning journey as a professional or your work with adult learners - contributed to wellbeing, meaning, and a more integrated life. Your story matters!

Learning as Flourishing

Your story might address some of the following aspects:

  • Tell us about learning experiences (yours or your learners') that became pathways to fulfilment, not just skills development
  • Share stories where education addressed not only competence but quality of life
  • Recount moments when teaching or learning went beyond planned outcomes to touch something more fundamental
  • Share stories where professional development and personal growth became inseparable
  • Describe how adult learning contributed to resilience, balance, or deeper life satisfaction.

Make it personal and specific

The most compelling narratives will include concrete examples. Perhaps a learner whose life changed through education, a moment when your own learning journey shifted your sense of purpose, or a specific instance when teaching became unexpectedly meaningful for both you and your participants. We are not looking for success stories or best practices: we are looking for honest, human stories about the intersection of learning, work, and living well.

Your contribution will help weave a tapestry of stories that reveals adult learning at its most powerful: not merely a path to employment, but a profound journey of human flourishing, where professional growth and personal transformation illuminate each other, and where learning becomes a lifelong act of becoming more fully oneself.

Word count: 800-1500 words
Format: Written stories… complementary images are welcome
Submission form:

The stories will be featured on EPALE throughout 2026 and will be included in an official EU publication to be released in October 2026: the EPALE Community Storybook 2026. This publication will showcase how adult learning and education contribute to meaningful, fulfilling lives across Europe.
