VOICES OF CHANGE project

Collecting Youth Narratives through Participatory Video
AGENCIA NACIONAL ESPAÑOLA DE LA JUVENTUD (INJUVE)
(Spanish National Agency for Youth)

The Voices of Change (VoC) project team has set the following concrete objectives:

1) Encourage more young people to be actively involved in storytelling and advocacy through participatory video, and indoing so, raise awareness of youth perspectives on climate change, integration, and other pressing challenges.

2) Provide young people with the opportunity to develop the skills and use the tools needed to create impactful participatory videos. In doing so, we aim to promote a sense of agency and confidence among youth to express their views and experiences.

3) Collect a diverse array of stories from young people on issues like climate change, integration, and youth challenges, and widely disseminate these narratives online to ensure wide visibility and impact.

4) Organise community screenings, online sharing, and policy engagement to spur conversation and action on key issues that impact young Europeans.

5) Help to bridge the gap between young people's experiences and the policymakers, encouraging informed decision-making.

The core focus of the VoC project is empower young people by supporting them with participatory video (PV) skills, enabling them to effectively tell their stories and advocate for critical issues such as climate change, integration, and youth-related challenges. Through this, we aim to strengthen youth voices in our communities, ensuring their perspectives are represented locally, online and in policy discussions.

Related to the results and outcomes that we expect to achieve, we anticipate that through the VoC project, we will:

1) Develop 3x90 minute workshops for young people to train them in Participatory Video (PV) techniques. These will include workshops on Introduction to PV and Ethical Considerations; Practical Storytelling techniques; Video Production and Editing.

2) Deliver these workshops to 10 young people in Spain, Croatia and Ireland.

3) Support these young people (working in pairs) to produce and edit 5 Participatory Videos per country.

4) Promote these 5 videos at community screening events, reaching a further 15 participants per country.

5) Evaluate the outcomes of the project and produce 3 policy briefs – one per country – to summarise the findings from this approach.

6) Promote the national policy briefs with 5 policymakers/bodies in Spain, Croatia and Ireland.
