TIMELINE TRAVEL An Alternative Tool for Architectural History Learning and Teaching ( Erasmus+ Program)

About Timeline Travel e-Learning Platform

Welcome to Timeline Travel e-Learning Platform! This website and its content have been created by an international team in order to make architectural history courses easier and more enjoyable. Timeline Travel e-learning platform aims to create an alternative architectural history teaching and learning resource together with the Timeline Travel Tool, which provides architecture timelines of historic cities together with a map and gives the chance of making time travels while studying architectural history. Timeline Travel e-Learning Platform is the first in its field, dedicated to the education of architectural history, yet it could easily be adapted and used for other disciplines as well. This e-learning platform and the tool are the products of the international project “Timeline Travel: An Alternative Tool for Architectural History Learning and Teaching”. This EU project is funded under the framework of 2017 Erasmus+ KA203 Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education grants by the Center for European Union Education and Youth Programmes (Turkish National Agency). The project is coordinated by Gaziantep University from Turkey, and has University of Bologna from Italy, University of Humanities and Economics in Łódź from Poland and Yeditepe University from Turkey as partners, besides several associated partners and collaborators. The project started on 1 September 2017 and will end on 31 August 2019. You can learn more about the project and its phases through the project website. By now, Timeline Travel e-Learning Platform presents four public courses: “Ottoman Architecture in Istanbul”, “Byzantine Architecture in Constantinople”, “Late Ancient and Byzantine Architecture in Ravenna” and “Renaissance and Baroque Architecture in Rome”. These courses are in English, but they are also available in the languages of partner universities, namely in Turkish, Italian and Polish. These courses make use of visual and textual materials in the form of articles and videos; they offer interactive tasks, quizzes and links to the Timeline Travel Tool; and they incorporate external links to distinguished articles and videos. Students can ask questions to their instructors on the forums, and teachers are able to monitor the progress of their students and the completion status of tasks and quizzes.

The platform is open to contributions from scholars around the world. Once they prepare new courses and suggest them to the editors of the platform, these courses will be integrated into the public library of the Timeline Travel e-learning platform. Alternatively, teachers and students can also create their private courses which could be accessed only with a password. You may also use this e-learning platform in other fields besides architectural history.
