Gamification ,Game-Based Learning , Serious Game

As most of the adults in Turkey play mobile games , the learning can be designed with using games

 

Learning paradigma shift from conventional learning  to g learning (smart learning.).Conventional learning which means traditional learning includes face to face teaching ,normal lecture…By changing technology modern society needs new paradigmas in learning. So   g learning is coming more popular which include  interactive methodologies ; like game based learning ,web2 tools ,videos...…

    As the learners retain what they learn by practising which means active learning .Active learning includes performing an experience  and practising an activity. As the facts on GloabalWebİndex  %79 of adults in Turkey play mobile games.So creatimg an active learning experience through games is important for permanent learning. G learning can be clasified in three main group.

 

First one is gamification. It means adding game mechanics to the lecture. Rewards ,scores ,leaderboards are  examples of the game mechanics. The goal of gamication is to engage with particapants to interact.  So , by gamification participants motivate to learn  and have positive feelings .In adult education , gamification works like fun of learning.Both having fun and experiencing enjoyment are perceived as a motivator to attend classes and learn the knowledge and skills.

 

Second one is game based learning. Game based learning activities are generally game-like designs and mainly focus on the entertaintment. The term game-bssed learning refers to the use of video games and elements related to game reality, content, subject and images in the educational process.Examples of game based learning include card games ,board game or any other games created by the mentor. There are also so many platforms  for game -based learning like kahoot ,gametize ,quizlet etc. Many of the platforms also can be used as a assesment tool

 

Third one is serious games. Serious games focus on learning itself. The main purpose is to create an educational concept. Building a serious game has three steps .First step is writing a scenario.Second step is selecting the tools.Last step is adding sensory experience like touching ,sighting.

 

As a conclusion ,  playing is an effective system of learning pradigma in adult education .As Albert Einstein said ‘’play is the highest form of research ‘’ so let’s add  to play in teaching methodologies .
