EduTrans21 - Success stories

EduTrans21 is in the last phase of the whole duration.
The planned activities were
1. Development of a strategic school development plan based on a survey
2. Development of a curriculum and following training for agile coaches for the support of engaged teacher teams
3. The implementation of open source into collaboration, teaching and learning
4. Intense exchange of experiences and common projects
The results in terms of outcomes so far exceed the envisaged activities.
The survey based on existing frameworks (digcomp/entrecomp/green comp/21st Century skills) involved school management, teacher, companies and students. The following SWOT-Analysis brought about two topics worth to be developed: teamwork as well among teachers and students, integration of sustainability into existing curricula as well as in school life.
ITECH Technical College developed some preliminary trainings in agile methods and the partner in Sibiu - Colegiul Tehnic Energetic (CTE) started early to implement that approach into teaching and learning. A first project had the focus on awareness rising and information about sustainability and climate protection. It was very successful because students showed great creativity in producing appealing materials. And they organized the project work according to SCRUM.
The next big project - an agile workshop in Sibiu with 18 students from ITECH - focussed on technical challenges. Prototypes using raspberry pie and arduino were build.
Recently, CTE and ITECH started projects in the IT department determining similar scenarios for the students. An intensive exchange of experiences took place during the project period.
The principal of CTE took the experience as an opportunity to launch a major project to network all classrooms with a teacher team and the involvement of the students.
At ITECH the focus has been on the important group of agile coaches. A core group was installed and training workshops with additional external support were arranged.
According to the SWOT analysis in the first phase new project teams of teachers were created. One team started to work on the topic sustainability in school life. This project led to the decision of the school to involve all teacher teams responsible for the improvement of learning fields to work on the integration of sustainability into curricula.
Another team deals with the problem of mental health problems of students. They developed a questionnaire for a diagnosis of the current state and needs especially in classes of weaker students. In this respect - inclusion will get a very practical dimension.
And last but not least, the open Source platform was implemented and in collaboration with the partner institution further developed. Among others, this was the precondition for an intense collaboration in terms of a big number of online meetings between CTE and ITECH.
We look forward to our final conference in Sibiu at a very high-profile location: the Company CONTINENTAL in Sibiu.
Last but not east, it is worth to mention that ITECH got the national German school award partly based on the outcomes mentioned above.
