BookPals project

BookPals@schools.eu is an Erasmus + project for innovations and exchange of good practices (KA219), a strategic partnership between the Zespół skopł nr 2 Lubartow in Poland, Agrupamento de Escolas de Muralhas do Minho, Valença from Portugal, Burhan Felek Andalou Lisesi in Istanbul, Turkey, Perifereiako Gymnasio kai Lykeio Lefkaron of Cyprus, Harsányi János Economic Vocational and Technical School from Budapest, Hungary and School of Economics from Požega, Croatia. The project was designed to encourage students in developing reading habits and soft skills, and active use of English languge. The teachers attended numerous trainings and seminars and gained insight into 6 European educational systems. Over the course of two years, 6 mobility was carried out in each partner school.
After the activities that aimed to encourage students to interact online (logo competition, Facebook page creation, launch of the eTwining project), we started working on the first major project of our project - exploring the mythological background of each nation involved in the project. The students read the proposed literature works, and illustrated them in form of picture books, posters, videos, photo stories, fanzines and comics. The activity followed was designing a common play. After we agreed and adapted literary template, the students began to prepare the roles in their schools. Ehe play was presented on mobility, in mixed international groups, in the real theater, through the form of a competition. The third job was mastering the method of digital storytelling, preceded by a scavenger hunt, exploring cultural attractions. The fourth job was producing a booklet brochure and reading diary, a collection of reviews and an illustration of 24 books of European literature. Students involved in the project recommended books to other pupils of their schools and wider community, books they love and appreciate. The brochure has also been developed with the work of creating book covers using ICT.
Apart from student activities, numerous training sessions have been prepared for the project. Each school shared their good teaching practices with the partners, so we've studied different types of literacy as well as learning how to use digital tools and platforms (Learning Designer, Tes Tech, Wikispaces, Plickers, Animoto, Quizlet, Quizbean, Edmodo, ). The topics and presentations can be viewed on the project page: https://sites.google.com/view/bookpals/teachers-corner
Teachers also participated in a series of drama workshops. Numerous photo galleries have been published on Facebook pages, Twinspace and the project's website.
The project popularized school libraries, loval libraries and national ones. Interaction helped librarians in designing ways to modernize the work of school libraries.
