OFFLINE STORIES
In the contemporary landscape, the digital transition is no longer an option but an established reality. However, as screen time continues to increase, a new educational urgency has emerged: the need to balance our online and offline lives. This is the context for the Offline project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ KA210-ADU program.
Its mission is to provide adults and trainers with the necessary tools to embrace the benefits of the digital era without losing sight of the human, social, and cognitive dimensions of the "real world."
Objectives: Moving Beyond Simple Disconnection
The Offline project was not created to demonize technology, but rather to promote a mindful and critical use of digital tools. Adult education often focuses almost exclusively on the acquisition of technical skills, frequently overlooking the psychological and relational impact these tools have on learners.
The Digital Disconnection Toolkit
The project’s true innovation, which distinguishes it from similar initiatives, is its Digital Disconnection Toolkit. Rather than a simple instruction manual, it serves as a flexible, practical guide designed to trigger lasting behavioral change by addressing three key areas:
- The Cognitive Dimension: Understanding how digital distraction influences our daily routines.
- The Emotional Dimension: Managing "FOMO" (Fear of Missing Out) and related anxiety.
- The Social Dimension: Rediscovering the value of non-verbal communication and physical presence in family and group settings.
To engage different age groups and meet diverse needs, the Toolkit has been developed using an approach based on mindfulness techniques, critical thinking, and gamification. This combination of methodologies makes the toolkit an adaptable and replicable resource across various contexts, from schools and professional environments to non-profit organizations.
In the following short video, we have gathered testimonials from trainers who, recognizing the risks of digital hyper-connection, decided to implement the toolkit within their professional and private lives.
As adult learning professionals, we have a responsibility to integrate these themes into our educational pathways. The challenge is not to switch off the internet, but to learn how to "switch ourselves back on."

Great perspective!
In modern society, where everything is seen as white or black, it is increasingly important to remember the wonderful shades of gray. Not all technology is evil to be avoided, just as not all technology is something that will change your life overnight.
